What do we work on in speech therapy?
1
Speech Sounds
Is it hard for others to understand your child's words? Do speech sounds come out inconsistently or inaccurately when your child's speaks? Is your child struggling to say their Rs, Ls, Ks, Vs, or any other speech sound?

Speech sound therapy (also called articulation therapy or phonology therapy) focuses on teaching your child to use their speech muscles to make speech sounds accurately and combine them into clearer words.

During speech sound therapy, we teach your child to master their sounds. We build your child's ability to correct their own speech and support their muscle memory for accurate speech.
2
LANguage
Is it hard for your child to put sentences together? Does your child say only a handful of words? Do they use words in confusing ways or struggle to communicate clearly with you?

Language therapy focuses on building your child's language learning abilities and strengthening their overall language use. Our goal is to support your child so they can express their wants, needs, ideas, and feelings as effectively as possible!
In our language therapy sessions, we support vocabulary growth, grammar development, and meaningful use of spoken words and phrases. We use a variety of activities and approaches to increase your child's command of language.
3
Fluency
Does your child repeat words or sounds in their sentences? Do they need extra time to get a sentence going? When they speak, does it seem like they work to 'push out' their words?

Fluency therapy focuses on supporting smoother speech, teaching strategies for your child to use during a stutter, and maintaining their confidence when their speech is dysfluent.

During fluency therapy sessions, we practice recognizing when a stutter is about to happen. Your child will practice techniques to reduce tension in their speech and will learn how to shift from a stutter to fluent speaking.
4
Caregiver communication
Did you know that caregiver speech and communication style are two of the most important factors for your child to develop their speech and language? Do you want to know the most effective ways to directly support your child's communication? Have you heard lots of advice but are unsure what will benefit your child the most?

Caregiver Communication Coaching is included as part of every therapy plan to grow your everyday language-teaching toolkit as your child makes progress in their own skills!

Coaching develops your knowledge of how speech and language works and why breakdowns happen for your child. We design activities and exercises together that help your child extend their therapy success to all settings and all conversation partners.
